Nurses
are Angels
®
Welcome,
From the time I was a little girl, all I can ever
remember wanting
to be was a nurse. I graduated from Miami Valley Hospital School
of
Nursing
and have worked there ever since. During my 34 year career in nursing,
I have worked on virtually every floor/unit in the
hospital and have
cared
for thousands of patients, from newborns to those in their 90's and
beyond.
I love providing bedside nursing care and doing the
"little things"
like shaving the older gentlemen, giving welcome back rubs, and
just
taking
time out to listen or to hold a hand. I have loved being able to touch
people's lives in a positive and caring way.
Nursing has changed over the years. The educational
process spends more
time on classroom and book material and less on actual
patient care.
There
is more emphasis on climbing the clinical ladder. Hospitals are
run
like businesses. The patients are sicker and
the staffing is shorter,
so
that there is less time to spend at the bedside.
In this fast paced world of health care, it is easy
for nurses and other
care-givers to become "disconnected" from their patients. I hope
that
this
web site will help in some small way to "reconnect" people by sharing
personal
stories and poems about positive nurse/patient
relationships.
I will publish your contributions here. Please send
me your stories,
poems, thoughts, humor and letters today!
